Description

Dimensions - Width 3m.
Plan Form - Octagonal.
Grotto cut into dingle at Woodrow High House (0423200000). Built of flint with limestone and pebbles, with pebble symbols on inside walls, possibly religious. Fireplace in wall. Domed roof open at apex. See full description (B1).
Cleared by Mr Pollitt, gardener at Woodrow High House, plans and photos (B4-5).
Grade II. In a wooded dell west of the house, an early C18 underground octagonal chamber with walls faced in knapped flints and ornamented with pebbles in chalice, circular and diamond motifs. Vaulted roof with oculus and arrow motif decoration. Fireplace; pebble floor with arrow pattern. Remains of circular forecourt with sunken paths. Brick vaulted chamber below (B6).
