  • INN (19th Century - 1800 AD to 1899 AD)

Description

1 mill, worth 10 shillings, on the Domesday manor of Sobintone [Shabbington] (B1).
OS 2-inch draft map marks 'Mill' approx at NGR (B2).
There are various references to the watermill valued at 10 shillings yearly in 1086; the site only is named in 1683 (B3).
'Old Fisherman' public house is known locally as 'The Mill' & would seem to represent the mill site. Since it is called 'The Fisherman in Bryant's map of 1825, the mill would have ceased working by then (B4).
Historical notes (B5).
