Description

'Kiln' and 'Brick Field' marked on OS 1878/1885 1st edition 6-inch map, centred at NGR (B1).
Kelly's directory entries: 1883-1887 'Buckingham, Edmund, brick & tile manufacturer'; 1891 'Buckingham, John, brick & tile maker'; 1895 'Buckingham, John, brick & tile maker & miller (wind & steam)'; 1903 'Buckingham, John, brick & drain pipe manufacturer' (B2).
No visible remains of the brick works exist on the site, now occupied by Roddimore Farm. According to the farmer there were extensive pits, over 20 feet deep. These were waterfilled & in winter were used by a local Scottish family for curling! These have been entirely infilled & now form paddocks for the farm (B3).
Site is noted on OS 1st edition 6in map and on OS 25in map surveyed i1878-80 (B4).
