Description

Vague earthworks which can be identified in general terms with the buildings & plots shown on 1769 estate map. Sketch plot of earthworks at 1:2500 (B1).

Medieval shrunken settlement remains are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a close adjacent All Saints Church in Soulbury village, at the corner of High Road and Church Street and centred at SP 88236 26979, a low subrectangular earthwork platform about 40 x 17 metres lies on the road/close boundary. To the north, between the platform and the church, which sits on higher ground, is a series of slopes and narrow terraces that are likely natural in origin (2-3).
