A moat of medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 150m south of Nash Lee Farm farmhouse, Ellesborough, and centred at SP 84316 08402. The moat is roughly trapezoidal in shape with a water channel extending to the north, towards a watercourse which flows north, downhill from the Chiltern ridge. At its largest the moat is 50x72m and the ditch is 9-14m across and the water channel at the north eastern corner of the moat extends for approximately 42m. There is a sub circular mound, approximately 13m across, on the island in the centre of the moat. There is no building, only probable orchard trees, on the Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 map. Modern aerial photographs show a wooded area but the lidar visualisations show the earthworks of the moat and mound. The moat is close to two others, at Terrick House and Grove Farm, but is not Scheduled. There are a number of other moats along the same watercourse further to the north in the parish of Stoke Mandeville. (5-6)
