Description

IN 1870 LORD BROWNLOW LEASED 10 ACRES ON MR GALE'S FARM TO JOSEPH LEE & JOSEPH PRICE OF LEICESTER TO DIG COPROLITES & SET UP A WASH MILL TO CLEAN THE FOSSILS BY THE STREAM. THE WORKINGS WERE ALSO USED FOR BRICKMAKING, USING CLAY BENEATH THE FOSSIL BED. LEE & PRICE STAYED ON IN THE BRICK TRADE (B5-6).
'Coprolite-pits (formerly worked). A quarter-mile south-east of [Cheddington] railway station. A brickyard since ?1874 (B8).
