Description

LBA CLOSED SOCKET SICKLE. WELL PRESERVED. MAX WIDTH 138MM & HEIGHT 76MM. HOLLOW SOCKET, TAPERING WHOLE LENGTH, FLAT END & PERFORATED TO TAKE 2 RIVETS. VERTICAL CASTING LINES DIVIDE SOCKET INTO 2. BLADE MAX THICKNESS 3MM AT RIBS WITH 4 GROOVES. DRAWINGS (FILED). FINDSPOT DIFFICULT TO PLOT SO IS APPROX (B1-2).
A Late Bronze Age socketed sickle with ribbed blade was found protruding from leaf-mould, possibly disturbed by burrowing animals, by Mr. B. Payne who presented it to the Museum (540.1981) (B3).
