Description

NEOLITHIC WORKED FLINTS & SHERDS OF EBBSFLEET & BEAKER POTTERY FOUND BENEATH ROMAN VILLA DURING EXCAVATION (B7).
TRACES OF NEOLITHIC USE OF SITE FOUND BY B R HARTLEY IN 1954 EXCAVATIONS (B8).
Features including a possible hearth and a pit (approx 0.5-0.6m diameter and 0.3m deep) apparently found in prehistoric occupation layers or cut into 'old ground surface' beneath Roman layers during excavations in October and December 1954. Finds, some apparently stratified, included pottery and possible flintwork. Much of pottery apparently lost before 1969, a few remaining sherds given to BCM in March 1998. See correspondence (B20).
