Description
MAIDS MORETON MANOR HOUSE WAS BUILT NEAR THE SITE OF THE OLD MANOR; IT WAS FORMERLY CALLED MORETON HOUSE & WAS THE EARLY HOME OF THE LATE BISHOP BROWNE OF WINCHESTER & OF SIR THOMAS GORE BROUNE (B1).
Test pit excavated in grounds of Maids Moreton Hall in July 2003 identified 3 layers of post-medieval made ground and garden soils overlaying the natural clay. Finds included residual medieval pottery of the 12th and 13th centuries and 1 microlith fragment, possibly a burin. See detailed notes etc (B3).
