THERE WERE 2 LANDHOLDERS AT DOMESDAY: BISHOP OF BAYEUX (5 HIDES), ROBERT DOYLEY (4 HIDES). BOTH BECAME SUBSEQUENTLY MERGED IN 1 SHALSTONE MANOR. OWNERS INCLUDED BAINELS, DE AETES, PUREFOYS, PUREFOY JERVOISES, FITZGERALDS (WHO TOOK NAME PUREFOY IN 1900)(MANORIAL HISTORY)(B2).
