Description

Extensive 'Brick & Tileworks' recorded c.1862 (B1).
Directories list 'Brickmaker, Limeburner, & Farmer' 1876-7,1891-5,1900-03 (B3).
OS 1880/85 maps mark 'Kilns' 'Brickfield' & 'Clay Pits' (B2).
By 1981, very little sign of works; a large claypit was being gradually infilled (B4).
NGR to kilns &C (B2).

An extractive pit of post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 300m north east of Coombs Farm, Thornborough, and centred at SP 73504 32575. This pit measures 139x158m at its largest and appears to have been infilled and levelled on lidar visualisations. (6-7)
