Description
Dimensions - Length 40m, Width 13m.
Rebuilt by Lord le Despenser 1763 retaining Medieval W tower (B1).
Within hillfort - CASS 00019. Explanation of position by John Aubrey 1686 (B3).
W tower heightened & golden ball added with seats inside. Nave rebuilt 1751-63 for Sir Francis Dashwood Bart. Upper part of tower pre-1757 (appears in engraving) (B8).
Watching brief revealed inhumations associated with the graveyard (B12).
Background research and detailed topographic survey carried out by English Heritage between April 2000 and June 2001. Hillfort interior remodelled by construction of large platform for church. Discussion of surviving medieval fabric within existing church and Francis Dashwood's refurbishments. See report for detail (B13-B15).
Conservation management plan (B16).
