'GRAVEYARD' MARKED AT NGR (B4).
John Hampden, Parliamentarian, is supposed to be buried in the churchyard (B5).
Watching brief carried out by KDK Archaeology in July and August 2014 during groundworks for a new toilet block and store room, drains and new soakaways, identified the partial remains of 5 poorly-preserved articulated burials in the soakaway (pit 4). Although no grave cuts were visible, 2 of the 5 burials were associated with coffin nails. Disarticulated human bones were observed during the ground reductions for the toilet block, in service trenches 1 and 4, and in pit 3. The bones were subsequently reburied within the churchyard. See report for detail (B9).
