Description

Poynetts House & Wood derive their name from the Poynants, C14 holders of Skirmett manor. House is modern with C17 nucleus.The foundations of a house, burnt down in 14th or 15th c. lie about 50 yds east of the present Poynatts House, west of Skirmett. Roman brickbats were found, probably re-used from the ruins of a Roman house in the area. (SU774903). (B1).

The gardener at Poynatts House for C 20 years, did not know of any foundations, nor had he found any Ro remains. (B2, B5).
