  • MILLSTONE (Medieval to Post-Medieval - 1066 AD to 1798 AD)

Description

Dimensions - Radius 31cm.
A lava quern/millstone segment, reconstructed diameter 63cms. Soil has been much disturbed in area of find recently in an effort to level ridge & furrow, so findspot not necessarily accurate. Diameter seems a little small for a millstone, though large for a hand quern, & in addition grooves are cut in upper surface in millstone fashion. NB mill mound in vicinity [CAS 04133] (B1).
