Description
AXE: PHOTO BY BRISTOL UNIV & CORRESPONDENCE WITH FURTHER INFORMATION (B1-2).
RECENTLY EXHIBITED AT LEE SCHOOL. MRS BARKER SAYS SOME CVAHS MEMBERS UNSUCCESSFULLY PROSPECTED FOR FURTHER BRONZES. LENT FOR DRAWING. FOUND BY MR. PAYNE IN ROOTS OF, OR JUST BENEATH APPLE TREE. COTTAGE NOW DEMOLISHED (B3-4).
Axehead donated to BCM (B5).
A bronze socketed axe found in 1945 (B1) at SP 91220371 by Mr Payne, is now held by Mrs Barker, Clump Farm, The Lee (B6).
The museum siting falls in the centre of what was a small garden at the rear of Payne's Cottage (now demolished). Mr Payne is now deceased but Mrs Barker confirms possession of the axe which was not available for inspection. Surveyed at 1:2500 (B7).
