Description

Grade II. c1900 for W W Astor by T Waldo Story. Stone Renaissance style balustrades to a small bridge over outflow from a pond to the Thames and, at right angles, similar balustrades flanking stone steps down to river edge. Balustrades modelled on Villa Borghese balustrade [CAS 0440902004] with turned balusters and eagles on piers. The pool is the outflow of the mineral spring frequented as a miniature spa in the early C19 (B7).
