Description

WILTON PARK WAS EARLY C18 BUILDING: NOT CLEAR WHETHER ON SITE OF ORIGINAL MANOR HOUSE. THAT MAY BE WILTON FARM (SEE 01:001)(B4).
EARLY GEORGIAN, RESTORED C.1800 BY JUPP. HOUSE OF 7 BAYS & 2 STOREYS & ATTIC & BASEMENT WITH 1 STOREY WINGS ADDED (B1-2).
Early C18 house of seven bays and two and a half storeys to which some time about 1800 one-storey wings with big arched windows were added. Mr Colvin reports activity of Richard Jupp c.1790 and of C H Tatham in 1803-5. The house is entirely plastered white. Flat W side, E side with a large shallow bow in the middle. Good plasterwork inside of the Adam-Wyatt type. Also in the entrance hall, as well as the room to the left of the central room with the bow, screens of paired columns to divide off the back part. Again two columns to mark the entrance to the stair. This has an open square well with a circular glazed dome. Restrained ironwork balustrade. The room to the right of the bow room has instead of columns the back part of the room lower and covered by a segmental vault, in its details very Soanian and therefore no doubt by Tatham. The one-storey wing on the S has one big room, the biggest in the house; the N wing is subdivided into offices, etc (B3).
LOCATED AT NGR (B5).
DEMOLISHED 1962 (ILLUS)(B6).
