BURY/BURG ELEMENT IN 'AYLESBURY' MAY INDICATE FORMER BURH FORTIFICATIONS. A DITCH EXCAVATED IN BOURBON ST (CASS 01932) IS THE 1ST EVIDENCE FOR ANY DEFENCES IN AYLESBURY & MAY BE SAXON; HOWEVER AYLESBURY WAS NOT A 'BURGHAL HIDAGE' CENTRE & THIS DITCH MAY BE C10 & NOT FOR STRICTLY MILITARY USE (B5).
