Description

PAINTING (1739) SHOWS POST MILL WITH CROSS-TREE, SHORT TAIL POLE & PENNANT ON TOP. INCLOSURE MAP 1771 SHOWS POST MILL ON MOUND AT APPROX NGR. POSSE COMITATUS 1798 RECORDS 2 MILL OWNERS. MILL MOUND VISIBLE ON AP? NOTE; SEE CASS 4277 - SOME REFERENCES MIGHT REFER TO EITHER MILL (B1-6).
A post-medieval curvilinear ditch and possible traces of a mound found during evaluation trial trenching carried out in July 2005 by John Moore Heritage Services. The ditch was aligned NE-SW and curved slightly towards the N at its W end, was 2.1m to 2.5m wide, 0.86m deep and visible for 5.8m. Uncertain whether or not ditch and possible mound represent remains of post-mill site (B7).
