Description

Plan Form - L shaped.
The Old Malthouses, on north side of Broadway, of 2 storeys of brick & timber, roofs tiled. Probably of C16 or C17, but there is little detail by which to assign a definite date. Consist of an L-shaped block of buildings, the longer wing extending towards the N; the S end, now used as a dwelling, is restored with modern brick; the upper storey at the N end retains the original timber-framing in the E & W walls (B2).
Ye Olde Malt Tea House; early C18 refronting of earlier house. Tea House & antique shop adjoining have been treated as 1 unit. Beside the name of the café is a rather optimistic date '1425' (B3).

Nos 7 and 9 have double doors, 3 panels each, the upper two glazed, panelled reveals, architrave surround, hood with panelled soffit, cornice. Modern shop bow windows each side.
