Description

RB POTTERY, COINS & OTHER METAL OBJECTS FOUND IN CONFINED AREA OF FIELD (NGR TO SITE CENTRE, 850M SSE OF LITTLE HORWOOD CHURCH)(B1).
COINS & OTHER METAL ARTEFACT FOUND WITH METAL DETECTOR (B2-3).
SMALL QUANTITY OF POTSHERDS MIGHT INDICATE A SPECIAL FUNCTION SITE, PERHAPS VOTIVE? (B4).

A settlement site of Iron Age/Romano-British date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 650m south of Little Horwood and centred at SP 79174 30024. A subrectaungular enclosure (45x55m) containing a ring ditch (17m in diameter), with another subrectanular enclosure (37x29m) adjoining it are visible as cropmarks within a larger subrectangular enclosure (115x73m). A separate subrectangular enclosure (33x30m) is visible approximately 15m to the west of this. Finds of Romano-British pottery and prehistoric flint flakes are recorded on the site. (7-9)
