Description

IN FIELD TO S OF ROAD TO CHURCH SPRING RISES IN S. POSS HOLLOW WAYS & HOUSE PLATFORMS. BRICKS & MORTAR NOTICED C.1955. IN FIELD AT FRONT OF MANOR HOUSE AN UNEVEN AREA, KNOWN AS 'MOUNTAINS CLOSE (B1).
PERAMBULATION OF AREA REVEALED ONE PLATFORM WITH NO OTHER ASSOCIATED EARTHWORKS VISIBLE (B2).

Possible trackways and boundaries of probable medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located aproximately 140m west of the medieval motte at Weston Turville and centred at SP 85795 10380. Earthworks of linear ditches and banks are faintly visible on aerial photographs from 1945 and clear on lidar visualisations of the area. The earthworks appear to the remains of trackways, boundaries and/or possible building platforms on the north side of Church Walk, the road leading to the manor house and church, at Weston Turville, to the north of an area of watermeadows and a pleasaunce visible as earthworks to the south (see MBC47219) and west of the motte and bailey at Weston Turville (see MBC3201). Modern land use is pasture/grass. (4-7)
