(SP 73942565) Moat (NR) (B11).
A moat at the rear of White House Farm, and traces of another to the north. Both in poor condition (B1).
Indications of a small manorial complex NE of the moat (B12). A manor was said to exist in East Claydon in 1086 (B13).
Visited 1971. Consists of two moats by the church, one with an extension to the E. West of the village by Verney Farm are several house platforms, village street and pond. Much mutilated by farmer (B14).
All that remains of the moat at SP 7393 2564 are the mutilated remains of the north and south arms, the rest having been filled in and partly overlaid by farm buildings. No finds have been made in the flat enclosed area at present under pasture. Of the alleged second moat at SP 73852573, a cattle pond, apparently modern, and a slight depression survive; the latter does not seem to be the remains of a moat but part of the shrunken village earthworks of East Claydon. Published survey (25") revised (B15).
