HOMESTEAD MOAT (B1).
VISIBLE ON AP (B3).
A SQUARE, PART-WATERFILLED HOMESTEAD MOAT 53M SQUARE OVERALL WITH ARMS 12M WIDE & A CAUSEWAY IN NW CORNER. NO TRACE OF A BUILDING FOUND WITHIN ENCLOSURE, WHICH IS AT SAME LEVEL AS SURROUNDING GROUND. INLET IN SE CORNER, OUTLET IN NW. ARMS HAVE MAX DEPTH OF 1.3M (B2).
A medieval and/or post-medieval moat is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 350 metres SW of Doddershall House and centred at SP 71744 19915, a four-sided moat ditch up to 14 metres wide encloses a central platform 33.5 metres square, An earthwork bank flanks the outer bank of the ESE facing side. There appears to be a 3 metres wide entrance to the platform in the NW corner (4-6).
