EARTHEN POT FULL OF BRASS COINS FOUND UNDER TREE ROOT, BY THE GREAT POND IN SIR THOMAS CHALONER'S WOOD. COINS OF CARAUSIUS ('IMP.CARAUS.P.F.AVG', PALLAS & OLIVE LEAF) & ALLECTUS ('IMP.C.ALLECT.P.F.AVG') (B1-5,B9).
SITE OF POND DERIVED FROM 1845 MAP, AP'S & FIELD VISIT (SEE 01:000)(B6-7).
In 1620(1) or 1616(2) an earthen pot full of brass coins of Carausius and Allectus, was discovered under the root of a tree at Steeple Claydon (Name SP 6927), that once stood by the great pond in the wood of Sir Thomas Challoner. (The Challoner's Manor House was at SP 707268-SP 72 NW 1). (B10 and B1).
