Anti-aircraft battery

A site containing one or more artillery pieces and/or rocket launchers for firing at enemy aircraft. Anti-aircraft batteries were often established to defend vulnerable sites such as airfields. One anti-aircraft battery was set up on Beacon Hill, Ellesborough, to protect Chequers, the Prime Minister's country home. The one on Chandler's Hill, Iver Heath, was no doubt protecting the nearby ammunition depot at Black Park and possibly Pinewood and Langley Airfield.
